Bundesliga: Eagles Test for Kompany’s Champions in Waiting

Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt

First hosts third in the Bundesliga match of the weekend as Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich will attempt to continue their charge towards the 2025 title when Dino Toppmoller’s Eintracht Frankfurt are the visitors to the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarians are eight points clear of Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the table with the Eagles a further five points back. Last time out Bayern squeezed through their Champions League play-off against Celtic on Tuesday thanks to an injury time Alphonso Davies equaliser, which took them through to the Round of 16 on aggregate. And last weekend Bayern played out a goalless draw with Leverkusen, while Frankfurt beat bottom club Holstein Kiel 3-1.

The Bundesliga 2025 betting markets say that these two teams may well finish the campaign in first and third and it seems highly likely that Kompany will bring the Bundesliga crown back to Bavaria, though Leverkusen won’t give up their title without a fight. And, while Frankfurt have a five point cushion over fourth placed Red Bull Leipzig, Toppmoller’s men still have plenty of work to do, with a host of teams within a win of joining the top four race.

Talking Points

Kane doubtful again

Bayern and England striker Harry Kane is rarely out of the Bundesliga 2025 news, whether he’s scoring goals or getting injured and, sadly for the Munich fans, it’s the latter case again this week. He aggravated a calf injury during the 1-1 draw with Celtic in midweek and he has not been in full training since. The club confirmed that he already had a calf niggle before the Champions League play-off clash and the after-match analysis was that he had suffered localised bleeding. Bayern have yet to say how long Kane will be out, and whether he may even make the squad for the game against Frankfurt, but I think that’s unlikely at the time of writing.

Since his arrival in Munich the striker has had time out with an ankle injury, back problems and a torn muscle; and in a free-scoring Bayern side Kane has scored 21 goals this season which puts him seven clear of Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick in the chase for the Golden Boot. But, at 31 years of age, the former Spurs man is not getting any younger and Kompany will not take any risks with him, as the Bundesliga and Champions League move quickly towards the business end. The manager has already shown he can be pragmatic. Last week, in their top of the table clash against Bayer Leverkusen, Kompany’s team showed a different side to their game, conceding possession, putting men behind the ball and earning a precious point; with only one shot in the whole game, and that was off target.

Eintracht getting used to life after Marmoush

The Eagles lost their prize asset in the January transfer window as star striker Omar Marmoush moved to Manchester City in a 70m Euros move. The Egyptian was actually second in the race for the Golden Boot, on 15 goals, when he left. In his absence, 22 year old French striker, Hugo Ekiteke is standing up with 12 goals in 21 games but he’ll miss Marmoush’s all round play; the Egyptian made 10 assists to add to his 15 goals and his form has continued with Manchester City, where he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle United last week.

Eintracht Frankfurt's Holstein Kiel aims to produce Bundesliga highlights against Bayern Munich
Hugo Ekitike during Eintracht Frankfurt’s match against Holstein Kiel

He scored in Frankfurt’s recent 1-1 draw away to Borussia Monchengladbach and, though he had a penalty saved in the win over Kiel, Ekiteke’s goals could help to secure a top four place for the Eagles.

History

With VfB Stuttgart to play next week, this is a match Bayern really need to win to settle any nerves. They have won 36 of the last 58 meetings with Eintracht while the Eagles have won 11 and drawn 11. The return clash in Frankfurt was a cracker as the two teams traded blow for blow in a 3-3 draw as Marmoush scored an equaliser deep into stoppage time.

With four wins and two draws the league leaders are in better form than their visitors who have won two, drawn three and lost one over the last six games in all competitions.

And Bayern have been imperious at the Allianz Stadium, with tens wins and one draw in the league.

Betting Tip

According to the SBOTOP football stats team, -1.75 seems to be the tipping point for this game with Bayern priced at 1.95 with that handicap and the +1.75 advantage makes the Eagles a similar bet at 1.93

Both teams have yielded under 3.50 goals in four of their last six outings so I’m playing the percentage game and saying we won’t see another 3-3 result. But, if I’m wrong, that score line pays 52.84 as I write!
